Department of Conservation, New Zealand

Build as you evolve - how Objective RegWorks became the one solution to meet changing regulatory requirements with improved responsiveness, end-to-end enforcement and streamlined processes

The Department of Conservation - Te Papa Atawhai (DOC) is charged with conserving New Zealand’s natural and historic heritage. The Department focuses on creating a healthy natural environment, developing thriving communities and encouraging people to care. With responsibilities that come under a range of different legislation, DOC’s role has a strong regulatory focus.

DOC began working with Objective on a solution to better manage information requests from the public. This began with the InfoWorks module, which is designed to help facilitate public Official Information Act requests and ministerial requests. During this process, new legislation passed that gave the Department greater enforcement capacity. With new authority to issue infringement notices and fines for low level compliance breachers, an enforcement solution was also needed.

Aware that Objective RegWorks capability could be built upon as regulatory needs change and grow, DOC looked to expand functionality to enable management of the new regulations. By adding specialist modules to the RegWorks platform, the Department was able to use the one system to cover different regulatory functions.

Working with Objective felt like a partnership. We are able to customise the solution and scale as we grow. Working with a specialist in regulation was important to us.
