rssThe Local Chief Information Officer (CIO) Council, which is run by Socitm, has been handed a mandate from the Cabinet Office, to lead on developing a local public services perspective on the Government ICT strategy.
Initial work on this local perspective has been undertaken on behalf of the Local CIO Council by Socitm’s Futures group and has led to the development of a practical routemap for ‘pan-local’ public services reform enabled by ICT, known as ‘Routemap for Local Public Services Reform - enabled by ICT.’
The ‘Routemap’ will be championed by the Local CIO Council, submitted to the CIO Council and owned by local public services. It will also translate those strands of the Government’s forthcoming ICT strategy that are relevant to local public services into strategic actions by CIO’s to reform service design and efficiency.
Having defined the initial ‘Routemap’, Socitm are launching a public consultation to canvass views and opinion on these proposals, from other key stakeholders and anyone with an interest in local public services. This online consultation will be facilitated on the Objective Online Engagement platform – Objective uEngage.
Martin Ferguson, Head of Policy, Socitm commented “The consultation will be open for a month and enables interested parties to submit comments on the draft document. The Objective Online Engagement platform will enable us to consult with a broad group of stakeholders and will help us to refine our thinking and to build an understanding of the principles and actions, and the opportunities and options set out in the ‘Routemap’.”
Simon Etherington, General Manager UK, Objective Corporation stated “We are delighted to provide the engagement platform for this important consultation, which will help shape the future role of technology in helping local authorities to drive down costs, improve efficiencies and enhance front line service delivery.”
