Position Overview

The JavaScript Engineer will be expected to significantly contribute to the development and continuous improvement of the company’s cloud based product suite. They will work as part of an Agile team to deliver enterprise level web applications from a backlog of projects varying in size and complexity.  As well working hands on as a developer they should also be capable of contributing to architectural decisions throughout the development lifecycle.
The role requires advanced level JavaScript and ideally commercial experience working with one of the major open source libraries (with a preference on DOJO).  A deep understanding of AJAX, CSS and cross browser development is also essential.   As we are primarily focussed on the public sector, experience in developing for accessibility is desirable.

We are looking for a candidate with a strong academic record and a degree in Computer Science or Engineering. You will need to be enthusiastic about user interface design and web development, and highly motivated to build your skills in software development.

To be successful you will need first class communication skills, great attention to details and strong documentation skills.

Day to Day Responsibilities

• Develop and deliver web applications in an iterative fashion working as part of a feature team using Agile methodologies.
• Design functional, graphical and infrastructure building blocks of the system architecture in order to ensure the cohesion, stability and scalability of the product suite and promote reuse.
• Deliver resolution to prioritised defects and requests for change.
• Identify, investigate and improve knowledge of tools, techniques and technologies that are pertinent to the design, implementation and maintenance of cloud based products.
• Continually improve processes and implement best practice in software development.

Commercial Experience

• Min 5 years commercial experience.
• University IT Degree OR Tertiary Qualification.
• Demonstrable expertise with JavaScript, JSON, AJAX, CSS, XSLT and DHTML
• Experience and understanding of UI design and development.
• Experience in developing dynamic web sites.
• Experience in cross browser development for standards compliant websites.
• Experience and understanding of test driven development techniques and how these are applied in a JavaScript framework.

Preferred:

• Experience working with an advanced JavaScript Library (Dojo, JQuery, ExtJS etc) with a preference on Dojo.
• An understanding of a JavaScript MVC.
• JSON.
• REST.
• XSLT/XPath.
• Experience of developing within an Agile environment.
